What to Expect

Everyone is welcomed with warm hearts and cheerful smiles. You are invited to come into the beautiful sanctuary that is often decorated to match the theme of the service or special time of the year.

Can you describe your worship?

The service can best be described traditional with a contemporary feel. There is not a single type of service at Foothills UMC, rather it can change from week to week. There are a variety of services that can include a choir, bells or our adult or youth praise bands. We have an active youth group that leads the services on the fourth Sunday of the month. Audio and visual media are sometimes used to enhance the Sunday worship experience.

During worship joys and concerns can shared with others. Simply fill out a card found in the attendance pads. Completed cards will be collected during the Children’s Message.

FM receivers are available for the hearing impaired. Please ask an usher for assistance.

Do you serve communion?

At Foothills, we observe communion on the first Sunday of every month. The United Methodist tradition of an open communion is followed. That is, you do not need to be a member of our church or a United Methodist to receive communion. Communion is open to everyone who wishes to share in the Sacraments; all are invited to His table.

What do you have for children during worship?

Little Ones
There is a Nursery staffed by at least two caring adults for the younger children. Parents can feel safe knowing that their children are being watched by certified and screened caregivers. We have pagers so that parents can be contacted in the sanctuary if their little ones need mom or dad for any reason. There is fabulous play area that is open before and after church for kids with a little extra energy to burn off.
Preschool through Youth
All children participate in the first part of the adult worship including the Children’s Message, held especially for them up front with Pastor Dave or another church leader. After the Children’s Message, kids and youth are led to Sunday School for the remainder of worship time. Children may also remain in worship. See Children and Youth Sunday School pages for more details about our Sunday School program.

What should I wear?

Some people dress up, others come casual. Just wear whatever is comfortable for you.

How can I meet people?

After worship, you are invited to stay and join us for Christian fellowship over a pastry and cup of coffee. Once a month we extend this fellowship with a potluck lunch. Throughout the year we have additional events following worship. These include a Jerusalem Faire and Hot August Sundays with different warm weather events and treats.

Are there any Special Services?

Various times of the year you will find special services at Foothills UMC. Some of these services include:
  • Epiphany has traditionally been “White Gift Sunday.” The Holy family and Wise Men are present to receive gifts in the name of baby Jesus. The gifts, wrapped in white, are donated to various local organizations needing assistance.
  • During Easter week we celebrate the amazing story of Jesus' rise from the dead through special services and activities that culminate on Sunday morning with a sunrise service, potluck brunch, and 10 AM worship followed by a huge Easter Egg Hunt for the children.
  • During the Christmas season we have many special times at the church starting with the “Hanging of the Greens” fellowship. The Advent season includes a children’s pageant and three different services on Christmas Eve all ending with the sanctuary beautifully lit with candles held by the congregation.
