Pancake Supper & Ash Wednesday Service

Wednesday, February 17, 6-7 PM

There is nothing better for mortals than to eat and drink and find enjoyment, for these are from the hand of God.
This also, I saw, is from the hand of God; for apart from him who can eat or who can have enjoyment.
(Ecclesiastes 2:24-25)

Come enjoy a pancake feast on Wednesday, February 17, 6-7 PM.  Pancakes, bacon, fruit and orange juice will be prepared to satisfy the hungriest appetite. The meal is a free will offering.

The origin of Shrove Tuesday comes from the idea of - the night before Lent begins - consuming everything in the household from which one planned to abstain during Lent. We serve pancakes to connect us to the customs of a time when flour, eggs, milk, butter and other food items were all on the Lenten abstinence list. These days we celebrate before the Ash Wednesday Service more as a foretaste of the feast to come at Easter.

So come and savor with us the beginnings of anticipation to be heightened during our Lenten time of preparation. Enjoy the meal, and join us in the Ash Wednesday Service beginning at 7 PM with the disposition of Ashes and music from our choir.
